NIAA Scale 2012

NI Area Scale Competition

The Ulster MAC and the North West MAC have offered to host a round each of the NI Area Scale Contest for 2012.

Round one will be held at the North West Club on Saturday 9th.June at Newbuildings.
Round two shall be held at the UMAC site at Nutt's Corner on Saturday 4th.August.
Pilots briefing will be at 10.00am on both days.

Stand off and Flying only classes will be run at both venues in accordance with BMFA Scale contest rules (can be downloaded from BMFA website).
However in order to encourage participation we have deviated slightly from the BMFA rules. The maximum model weight of 15kg will not apply. Competitors with models over this weight will not be able to have their scores considered as qualifying scores for the Nationals in the Flying Only class, but can compete for the N.Ireland title.
Pilots must ensure that their models comply with all legal requirements e.g. CAA exemption certificate for models over 20kg.

The BMFA have given us tremendous support to get these competitions off the ground (sorry) and the judges will be giving their time and expertise free, so I would encourage anyone with a scale model to take part. I guarantee you'll enjoy it !

See you at Newbuildings for starters.

BMFA Stand Off and Flying Only Scale Rules for Area Competitions

Introduction:
Following the successful accreditation of 4 judges (A. Lafferty, S. Porter. T. Long & R.Mackenzie) by the BMFA Scale Technical Committee (STC), the opportunity is now available for the N.I. Area to run its scale competitions to the same format as the British Nationals, Scottish Nationals and all other STC competitions. In addition this would allow pre-qualification for the “Flying Only” competition at the Nationals for those pilots who may wish to pursue this as an option

NI. Area (Area 13) has now adopted BMFA Stand Off and Flying Only rules for the Area Scale Competition. These are available to download BMFA Scale Rulebook

Format:
The competition shall take the format of two rounds at two separate venues. Both Stand Off and Flying Only will be run using accredited judges. The winners in each class will be determined by an amalgamation of the scores attained at each venue.

The N.I. Area Scale Champion shall be the winner of the Stand Off class, as this class recognises a competitor’s ability both as a builder and a flyer. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in both classes.

Clubs are asked to nominate themselves for the hosting of each round of the competition. The suitability of individual flying sites for scale competition will be decided by the RC Power Secretary.
